There's a club Twitter account which I want to persuade people to use. I think it could be good for arranging to go flying, sending weather reports, general chatter and so forth. You can send and receive messages from a computer or as text messages on a phone.

First, go to twitter.com and make yourself an account.

Once you have an account and you are signed into it, go to twitter.com/ochilspgc and follow us.

You can also get messages sent to your mobile on most networks. Usually to receive each text from Twitter will cost the same as it costs you to send a text. Go to Profile - Edit your profile - Mobile, or directly to twitter.com/devices.

Once your phone is registed you can go back to the ochilspgc page and tell it to send messages to your mobile. The grey icon here means it isn't doing that yet - click it and the icon turns green.

So now you will receive any messages that ochilspgc sends out. If you want to send one to everyone yourself, you send a "direct message" to ochilspgc. Normally, a direct message means a private message to another person on Twitter. However, the ochilspgc account is set up specially so that whenever it gets a direct message it broadcasts it out to all its followers (so be careful what you say).

You can do this from twitter.com/ochilspgc.

Or you can do the same thing from your main page by starting a message with d ochilspgc.

That's also the way to send a message from your phone - text d ochilspgc hello everyone to the Twitter number. On Vodafone it's 86444 but it might be different on other networks.

You can see here that the message arrived - it comes from the ochilspgc account but it starts with my account name, fletcher_david, so you know who is talking to you.

One last note - you are only allowed to send direct messages to an account that is following you, so you won't be able to do this until the ochilspgc account follows you. This relies on me noticing that you started following ochilspgc so I can make it follow you back. If you don't see ochilspgc follow you after a couple of days, badger me at and I'll do it.
